Despite what you’ve heard in the news lately, Montréal is still a perfectly safe place to visit. I live here and I can still do exactly what I did before this all began.
Every time I go by Schwartz’s Deli, there is a lineup! So, I won’t suggest you go there if you’re in a rush, or to take a quick break from shopping in Le Plateau.
However, the queues of people standing outside, even in -30 degree weather, is obviously a testament to this renowned 80 year- old establishment. If you have the time and you love smoked meat, this is an experience not to be missed!
Suggestion: If you don’t want to lineup, try the off-hours: not lunch or dinner, but late afternoon in the week and later at night. Don’t eat it too lean – Yummy!
FYI: They even made a musical about Schwartz’s and it was recently purchased by Céline and René (Yes – that would be Dion and Angélil)!
After a day of shopping in this beautiful neighborhood you might be hungry and want a truly incredible French meal – try Leméac for dinner.
C’est cher but it’s worth it! I was there a few weeks ago and had a very memorable dining experience. For a 4 star restaurant there is a lot to choose from on the menu and the way they describe the food will make your mouth wate! Not to mention they have a truly impressive and extensive wine list.
The desserts are huge and it’s easy to eat a lot while you’re there – I know I did. Reservations are suggested and I suggest not eating on the day you go there just so there’s enough room to indulge!
