Being in Quartier Mode is like sitting in a friend’s living room. The big vintage couch in the middle of the boutique adds to that whole feeling. I chatted with Tiffany Elton, the owner and designer of Dawcy & Ella, about the choices she makes in the store and about things closer to home.
The other day I was in the very popular Citizen Vintage, chatting with one of the owners, Brooke Doyle. You can tell she and her partners absolutely live and love curating their collection. Because that’s what it is – a gallery of sorts that pays homage to decades gone by. So, I wasn’t surprised to find out that Brooke’s aesthetic comes from a background in Art History, and a lifelong personal passion for collecting vintage herself! What amazed and delighted me was the incredible merchandising of the store. When one thinks of “vintage” the image of tons upon tons of confusing racks comes to mind. Not the case in this extremely well organized boutique and also not surprising from a self-professed fellow neat freak like Brooke.
You know how some stores are so cluttered that you can’t find anything? Au contraire at Des Vertes et Des Pas Mûres. This medium to high-end boutique caught my eye and is organized so you can find exactly what you want. The loft-style space with wood floors and high ceilings displays exclusive lines from France and also has luxury basics such as Petit Bateau t-shirts and tanks.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been exploring the upscale and hip neighborhoods of Mile End and Outremont (boundaries are arguable). I have discovered some amazing places and met some wonderful people.
Yoga-à-Porter Boutique and Yoga Studio is a special place. This Yoganista’s Paradise is a very calming environment which is very different inside than what one might think. The name suggests Yoga activewear only but what they actually carry is so much more. The store’s philosophy is that you should be comfortable and Zen in everyday clothes while doing everyday things and not just while enjoying a Yoga or Pilates class. I couldn’t agree more! In and amongst other very high – end childrens’ clothing stores where you can find your typical offerings of conservative quality clothing and accessories, I found Toto n Dot. Also with great quality merchandise, it is the funkiest kids’ shoe store! The manager, Devorah Hoffman, was so accommodating and excited to talk about the coolest and cutest items that I found myself wishing I had children just so I could shop there!
