It’s very difficult to find comfortable boots when you love them as much as I do. The options are limited from a stylistic perspective. However there are a few types of boots that are iconic and work really well. I know how long “Doc” Marten boots last because I have had mine for about ten – fifteen years!
I remember when I was growing up you could only get the classic military-style boot and not much else. Now, there are so many amazing styles to choose from that I find myself craving the new pair, the Beca boot, from Bottes & Baskets – adding them immediately to my Wishlist!
This store is located on rue Beaubien, in Rosemont-La Petite Patrie and close to Little Italy. They specialize in classic vintage inspired footwear, bags, hats and some incredible accessories! Brands like Dr. Martens, practically a cult classic, Vans, Converse and great rubber wellies by Hunter and Tretorn are offered.
From the moment you walk into this two-year old store, it is obvious that this is a labor of love for the owners, Marie-Hélène and Sylvain. They are an energetic and fun-loving couple whose personality and laid-back lifestyle is reflected in their store. For instance, the hats by Goorin Bros. or Brixton can always be seen on their sales associates and personal portraits of them and their friends adorn the walls. Marie-Hélène’s experience as a pattern maker and Sylvain’s years in retail have given them an eye for detail. All the items are streamlined and simple but also extremely practical.
The Goorin Bros. and Brixton lines, from Britain, includes gorgeous caps and trilbys. When you look on the inside most are lined with quality material that you would usually find lining the finest suits. Not surprising for a company like Goorin Bros. that’s been around since 1895! The Palladium boots are made with rubber originally used in the making of airplane wheels. Just the kind of details I love!
The sporty Converse All-Stars and Vans come in almost every color of the rainbow and Shellys , London, have the cutest flats. Herschel canvas and leather knapsacks and Fred Perry leather bags are great for everyday . Everything is made of the highest quality and the accessories are so unique! Montréal jewelry designer/ recycler Chikiboom has some of the most fun and innovative creations I’ve ever seen. Belts are made from car seatbelts and buckles and recycled license plates are crafted amazingly into rings. The antique style pocket watches turned into necklaces by Z Creations are very elegant and inexpensive, between $24 – $40, and Isola makes one-of-a-kind pieces.
If practicality is not an issue for you, the British line T.U.K consists of retro pinup girl styles in really fun and funky patterns with wedges and heels. If you want to channel your inner Betty Page, girls – these are the shoes for you!
For Summer, check out the Vans flip-flops and my favorite blue-striped flats with an embroidered flower from Shellys. For your basic street-style footwear and accessories, this is the place to go! It seems more like a family than a staff in this friendly boutique; if you don’t see Marie-Hélène or Sylvain, Elodie, a real sweetheart, will be more than happy to help!
Merci Marie-Hélène, Sylvain et Elodie!
